Project Discovery-Talent Search is a federally funded program that provides academic and career guidance services in cooperation with your student’s school.  The information you provide on this form is strictly confidential and is used for no other purpose than to determine your child’s eligibility for Project Discovery-Talent Search. 

All information will be held in strict confidence!

At least two-thirds of the individuals we serve must meet the income guidelines and potentially be the first in their family to earn a 4-year college degree.

Applicants who do not meet both criteria can still be considered for the program based on available space.

Federal TRIO Program Eligibility

An individual is eligible for Project Discovery-Talent Search services if they meet all the following requirements:

1.  (i) Is a citizen or national of the United States; (ii) Is a permanent resident of the United States;

     (iii) Is in the United States for other than a temporary purpose and provides evidence from the Immigration and Naturalization Service of his or her intent to become a permanent resident; (iv) Is a permanent resident of Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, or the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (Palau); or (v) Is a resident of the Freely Associated States—the Federated States of Micronesia or the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

2.  (i) Has completed five years of elementary education or is at least 11 years of age but not more than 27 years of age.

3.  (i) Is enrolled in or has dropped out of any grade from six through 12, or has graduated from secondary school, has potential for a program of postsecondary education, and needs one or more of the services provided by the project in order to undertake such a program; or (ii) Has undertaken, but is not presently enrolled in, a program of postsecondary education, has the ability to complete such a program, and needs one or more of the services provided by the project to reenter such a program.

4.  Or the participant is a veteran.

5.  No supporting parent has a 4-year college degree; whether natural or adoptive.

Annual Eligibility Income Levels from the previous year

          TAXABLE INCOME = All earnings and wages minus the exemptions and standard deductions

 

I hereby give my permission for the Western Carolina University Project Discovery-Talent Search Program to have access to any educational records of the above-named student, which may be needed for full program services and to determine eligibility for the Project Discovery-Talent Search Program.  It is my understanding these records will be held in complete confidence by the WCU Project Discovery-Talent Search Program.

Photo release:  I consent to my child's photo being used in perpetuity by Project Discovery-Talent Search at WCU for any purpose that the program deems necessary.
